Maglev- The Train of the Future, Today!
After we got to enjoy the city of Hangzhou. We traveled back to the city of Shanghai. Which at 24 million people. Is the second largest city in China. Also is the 3rd largest city in the world! The city of Shanghai is also one of the major financial cities of our world. On our return to Shanghai. We all had the chance to have a good look around this major city. One of the high-lights of this visit. Was a chance to take a ride on the "Maglev Train"! The word Maglev stands for magnetic-levitation. For the Maglev train and it's very unique technology. Is truly out of a science fiction movie. The Maglev train is propelled by electric-magnetic energy. This very special train has no wheels and runs a very special track that has no rails. The Maglev train runs on a magnetic field. So their is 0% friction when the train is in motion. Which allows the Maglev train to reach speeds up to 431 KPH or 268 MPH. There is currently only one 30 KM line that runs from the Shanghai Train Station to the Airport. Everyone in our tour group enjoyed this rare experience immensely!
The Shanghai Maglev system was opened in 2004. The technology of the future was not cheap to construct. It cost $50 million U.S.D to build every KM of Maglev track. The Chinese government is trying to develop their own expertise. Which will allow for a major expansion of the Maglev Train system in the future. For a much cheaper cost!
