Hostel Chicken Cacciatore

Cooking has become a hobby for me. Also it can be a big asset while you are traveling on the road. It is always important to eat well. Especially while traveling during a exciting vacation.

I have eaten very well during this trip. A lot of the meals were made and designed by yours truly. Tonight's dinner was a great way to end this enjoyable time.

I call it "Hostel Chicken Cacciatore". The meal consisted of fresh finely sliced breast of chicken. Purchased this afternoon at the "Stop and Shop" food store. Located in Edgartown. I also purchased some organic fresh mixed veggies to the mix. For my sauce I used some medium salsa. Also I added some garlic powder and some basil. To round it on out!

Gay Head Light 1799

A interesting part of history has always been on the agenda for one of my trips. Visiting the "Gay Head" Lighthouse was an enjoyable part of today. I am posting my pictures I took of the lighthouse today.

Moshup Beach

After arriving back at the "HI" youth hostel. I got all my belongings settled in. Then I made my plan for activities on Martha's Vineyard today.

I talked it over with "Donnie" the friendly lady manager of the hostel located here on the Vineyard. My decision was an easy one. I was just going to purchase a 1 day bus pass for $7. And just take my last day easy and relax. I went out to the bus stop and waiting there was a friendly lady named Lana. Lana was also heading out to the western end of the island. So for a short time. I enjoyed the pleasure of a enjoyable travel companion.

On arrival at "Gay Head". That is what the western end of Martha's Vineyard is named. I just knew I had made the right decision. It has to one of the best beaches located on "The Vineyard". There are multi colored cliffs overlooking the beach. Which gives it that special dramatic feel when you are on this beach.

The beach itself is named "Moshup Beach". I hung out for a time with Lana. I did attempt to swim in the 62 degree water. But it was a little too cold for my liking. So I just got a bit wet, and enjoyed more relaxing time at the beach.

I then wished Lana a good day. And set off to do my own thing. Lunch was my first task. I enjoyed a nice fried cod sandwich and fries. Then I went to explore the "Gay Head Lighthouse". As I really do enjoy visiting old lighthouses.

They were the classic GPS sytem of the pass. There were the only hope of preventing disasters from occurring on the high seas.

Back To The Vineyard

This morning was the beginning of a brand new day. Also the final full day of this great dream vacation. I woke up just before 7am. To make sure of of my belongings were packed and ready to go. Also I had ample time to enjoy a good breakfast at the hostel before leaving for the Nantucket Airport.

Darlene a friendly lady who drives a cab on Nantucket. Was at the hostel right at 8am to take me to the airport. For my scheduled 9:20 Cape Air flight back to Martha's Vineyard. The flight was another very enjoyable 20 minute hop back to "The Vineyard".

Madaket to Bartlett's Farm

Today is my last day to spend on the island of Nantucket. It has been another very enjoyable day to spend on this beautiful island.

I have to admit the charm of this island has gotten into my blood. Lot's of history and beautiful scenery everywhere. Always will keep you in a relaxed frame of mind.

Today on my agenda was to ride out to visit the village of "Madaket". Located on the western tip of Nantucket. The ride went well and was enjoyed! The weather was misty on the ocean coast. When I set out from the hostel located close to Surfside Beach.

Then after riding my bike inland a little bit. The skies cleared and enjoyed sunny weather all the way out to Madaket. When I arrived at the village of Madaket. The same misty fogy conditions were prevalent. I purchased a cool juice rink at the local small market, and was content to just hang out on the misty ocean beach. The mist created a very surreal felling combined with the sounds of the ocean.

Then I started to ride with the support of my Garmin GPS. To find and visit Barlett's Farm. This Nantucket institution has been a family farm on Nantucket Island. Since the early 1800's. They still produce fresh fruit and vegetables for the island resident's. Plus they offer an upscale market selling fresh food and produce. Plus fresh cooked and prepared food.

I enjoyed a fresh turkey club sandwich. With a nice bowel of clam chowder. My meal was delicious. I then purchased some provisions for my dinner tonight. The main course being free range, organic, skinless and boneless chicken breasts. I will let you know how dinner turns out.

Then I rode back to the hostel. It is located about 2 miles away from Barlett's Farm. I was happy to have the help of the GPS to help guide me back to the hostel. As the streets are poorly marked here on Nantucket. Time to start cooking dinner.
