Sankaty Head Light

Today was another special day. That was enjoyed by the Travel Wolfe. Located here on the beautiful island of Nantucket.

New friend and fellow traveler Michael and I. Set out on a bike ride today. To try and explore and enjoy the history of Lighthouses here on Nantucket. There are 3 historic lighthouses located on this island.

The first part of the day was a repeat of my bike ride yesterday. We rode our rented bikes on the Milestone bike trail out to the village of Sconset. When we arrived there we bought some lunch. To be enjoyed later in the day. We then rode the bikes over to enjoy the Sankaty Head Light. This historic Lighthouse that has helped to protect sailors since 1850. Was placed on the registry of historic structures in the U.S.A. in 1987.

It is an interesting fact about this Lighthouse. That in 2007 the entire Lighthouse was moved from it's original location. To it's present location. A distance of about 400 feet from it's original location. This was completed to preserve the Lighthouse. As it's existence was being threatened by erosion of the cliffs.
