All Over Barbados!

Today was unexpected pleasure. As Ramiro and I did rent a car. We enjoyed a fun day driving all over the island of Barbados.
Today was the first time I have ever rented a car outside of North America. My brother John and I did drive across the boarder into Mexico during my U.S. trip in 1985. I was the driver as we had a short tour of Tijuana, Mexico.

The challenge for driving a car in Barbados are; they drive on the left hand side of the road, like they do in England. The streets are very narrow. Also as we found out. The roads located on the north and east of Barbados. Are in very poor condition.

Saying all that. Ramiro and I split the driving. Everything went well, and it was a fun and enjoyable experience by all. Also a good friend of Ramiro's. A friendly fellow named Omar. Joined us, on our day trip. Omar like Ramiro is from the South American country of Valenzuela.

Here is the Itinerary for our day driving all around Barbados. We drove north along the Caribbean coast. We stopped in Speightstown. We found a great beach located there. We crashed and relaxed there for awhile. Then a swim in the Caribbean will always be the medicine that the doctor cannot possibly prescribe.

After the swim we enjoyed lunch in Speighttown at a local restaurant. Did a little shopping and then headed to the north of the island. We checked out the high cliffs that are located on the north coast of Barbados. The cliffs were worth checking out. Great views of the Atlantic to the east, and the Caribbean Sea to the west.

A little drama followed after we left the north coast. For people who follow are tracks. Let it be known there are no gas stations or much of anything to be found on the northern part of Barbados. The problem was created because we picked up the rent a car with only a 1/4 of a tank of gas in the tank. Ramiro recommended doing a fill up before we headed up north. But I did not take the good advise. Which did cause a potential problem. Heading towards the east coast of Barbados. The low fuel warning light was now illuminated. We only had enough fuel to travel another 25 KM. We did not want to run out gas in a remote part of Barbados. It would of ruined a great day. But good luck of the traveler. Saint Christopher, The Swiss Goddess of Freedom. Some positive force was out there looking after us. Around the next bend. There was a "Shell" gas station. We all were elated!!! After purchasing $60 Barbados of
gasoline. The adventure of the day continued.

Next stop was Martin's Bay. Located on the Atlantic side of Barbados. The Atlantic side of Barbados is really the more tropical, lush and beautiful part. The beaches are by far nicer then the Caribbean side. No tacky resorts and Condos are found here. Just nature at it's finest. The problem is. The waves are so strong and large on the east side of Barbados. It creates unsafe conditions for swimming.

Ramiro, Omar and I. Enjoyed a nice fresh fish dinner at Martin's Bay. At a local pub. We washed the fish dinner down. Enjoying some refreshing Bank larger beer made here in Barbados.
Ramiro and I shared the driving duties to get us safely back to the Guest House. To end a great day of my Barbados adventure.
